Meet the next world-project that combine folk songs and tunes to modern sound. Don't expect another "deep forest-like" sound here but feel ancient magic of ancient land...
"Hvarna" is a project of Belarusian musician Andrey Palaўchenі (leader of bands "Osimira", "Pragnavit") and musicians of St. Petersburg group "Obereg". The basis of the project - songs and tunes of Kryvia (Belarus), Finno-Ugric folks and the Russian North, fused with the improvisational style of playing and vocal techniques. Style of playing can be defined as the space between the ethno ambient and dark wave. But that wave is not as dark as storm clouds in the hour of the wolf, but quiet and thoughtful evening beforte bright silence night full of soft starlight and moon shining.
Singularity and uniqueness of the group is in connection the two sacred priestly instruments and traditions: Kryvian duda (pipe, flute) and Russian gusli (slavonic harp). Musicians try carefully and skillfully to combine these two "opposites" that gives a special force and solemnity to the music. Lyrics and ancient hexes musicians left untouched, allowing only to give them new musical interpretation, leaving the magical atmosphere of feeling of creation of their ancestors.

In the Avestan tradition Hvarna is the highest markness, the divine reward, grace, holiness, the gift of fate, charisma and talent. Hvarna allows you to move beyond the cycle of our world, changing your own fate and fates of others, and the transition to a new level.
"Koła Viartańniaŭ" from Belorussian is "Wheel of Returns". Album title represents a permanent return to itself through the native culture, to the beginning of times, to the moments of creation. It's not a setback, but the way forward through new and new departures and returns.
"Koła Viartańniaŭ" is the first album project, but is not the first for the members of band. Therefore, this debut album could be called a mature and complete becouse of expirience of musicians. As for vocals, the voice of Catherine Elkin, soft and light sometimes, or hysterically-ecstatic, creates a unique atmosphere of mystic, ancient magic, fairy tales. Feel like as it envelops all the music, directing it into the most unexpected depths at times.
The palette of tools used for writing "Koła Viartańniaŭ", is also very colorful: harp, zither, kryvsko-Lithuanian duda, flute, charot, harp, tambourine, darbuka, Hulusi, ending, flute, ocarina, Karatal, sharhuny, keys.
All the album's songs are played "live" and as close to the concert sound. Even minor deficiencies of execution (Russian accent, the acceleration of pulse, respiration), intentionally left in the account, so be as honest with yourself and the audience. Not for nothing, finding "hvarny" in Avestan tradition, may only honesty and purity.
It is possible to speak much about that group and that music but it's much better to hear own ears. As Russian proverb says "It's better to to see once your own ears than to hear 100 times from the others".
