Kizhi - is an island on Lake Onega in Republic of Karelia on the North-West region of Russia. '
Kizhi' - is a one of the interesting museums with open-air exhibition on the island. Folk-ethnographic theatre of museum 'Kizhi' - is a folklore ensemble presents ancient songs, dances, reconstruct clothes and ceremonies of old times. As usual it's authentic female choir singing of Russian North traditions. But it's better to hear once than to read about it 100 times.
'Zaonezhie' means land located behind the Lake Onega. It's historical name of the district of Karelia, located on Zaonezhski peninsula in the northern part of Onega, one of the distinctive places of Karelia and Russian North. The ancestors of contemporary northern folks lived here, today's Sami, Vepsians, Karels.
